On Wednesday afternoon at 3:27 PM, Delhi’s electricity demand reached 5,462 megawatts, the highest so far this year. This data was shared by the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC). According to Delhiโ€™s Power Minister Ashish Sood, the demand could go as high as 9,000 megawatts this summer.

Sood added that theyโ€™ve asked the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to review all power purchase agreements to improve buying efficiency. Meanwhile, BSES, the power distribution company, has assured that itโ€™s fully prepared to handle rising demand and will provide uninterrupted electricity to the 2 crore residents of the capital.

Kejriwal and Atishi Slam Delhi Government

Former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal criticized the current BJP-led Delhi government and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over power cuts. On social media platform X, Kejriwal wrote:

“Yesterday, the peak power demand in Delhi was 5,462 MW, and still many areas had long power cuts at night. Last year, the demand reached 8,500 MW, yet during our government, there were no power cuts anywhere in Delhi.”

Kejriwal further said:

“We worked hard for 10 years to improve Delhiโ€™s power system. Fixing something takes years, but ruining it takes only a few days. What will happen in the coming weeks when heat and power demand both increase?”

Atishi Also Speaks Out

AAP leader Atishi also posted on X, saying:

“Last night, Delhi people were very troubled. There were long power cuts in many areas. I received many calls and messages from different parts of Delhi throughout the night. People are suffering, but the BJP government is silent.”

Political Tension Rising Over Power Crisis

With the power demand increasing in Delhi, the political blame game has started. AAP is blaming the new BJP government for failing to manage the electricity supply, while the BJP is focusing on finding long-term solutions. The situation is tense, and citizens are hoping for a quick resolution before the summer heat worsens.
