The political tension surrounding the stampede at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj continues, with the opposition attacking the UP government. During his journey from Patna to Madhubani on February 3, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav questioned the Uttar Pradesh government about the incident, asking who would take responsibility for it. He also pointed out that if this issue was raised in the Lok Sabha, there was nothing wrong with it. He demanded that the government clarify who was responsible and how the incident occurred.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi made statements about “Jungle Raj” in Bihar during a rally in Delhi, criticizing the RJD and Congress. In response, Tejashwi Yadav asked the Prime Minister, “What have you given in the last 11 years? Can you compare what Bihar has received versus Gujarat?”
Tejashwi further accused the police in Madhubani’s Benipatti area of regularly beating up locals. He mentioned an incident where a DSP allegedly beat a minority person, and no action had been taken. Tejashwi said he would visit the affected family and ensure that justice was served. He also made it clear that no matter whether he is in power or not, he will always stand against injustice.
He criticized the BJP for creating a dangerous mindset within the police force, especially in Madhubani and Darbhanga, where BJP leaders hold significant positions. Despite this, he claimed, the situation was worsening, and he would not back down until justice was delivered. He promised to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission regarding the matter.
Tejashwi also spoke about the alarming crime situation in Bihar, pointing out the frequent shootings and the lack of action from the police or government. He expressed deep sadness over the suicide of Congress MLA Shakil Ahmed Khan’s son and said he would meet with Shakil Ahmed Khan after returning from Madhubani.
