The India A vs Australia A series has taken an unexpected turn. Shreyas Iyer, who was leading the India A team, has stepped down as captain just before the second match. The management has not given any official reason for this sudden decision, and Iyer himself has also not spoken about it. Reports suggest that it may be due to personal reasons.

Dhruv Jurel Takes Charge

Before the second match, Iyer informed the selectors that he would not be able to continue and left for Mumbai. Following this, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who was earlier the vice-captain, was handed over the captaincy. According to reports, Iyer has also decided to skip the upcoming four-day match against Australia A.

Chance Against West Indies

India will play a two-match Test series against West Indies after the Asia Cup 2025. Selectors are likely to give Iyer a spot in the middle order during that series. His absence from the Asia Cup squad had already created a lot of debate on social media, and selectors had to face questions about leaving him out. At that time, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that there was no specific reason for not picking Iyer, but he would have to wait for his chance.

When the India A squad for the Australia A series was announced, Iyer was trusted with the captaincy. However, his sudden break has now shifted leadership responsibilities to Jurel, who will look to guide the team in the ongoing series.
