The entire country is outraged over the rape and murder case in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The Supreme Court has expressed serious concern over the delay by the Kolkata Police in registering a case of unnatural death related to the incident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. Meanwhile, the mother of the main accused, Sanjay Roy, has claimed that her son is innocent.
Accused’s Mother Claims Son is Innocent
According to a report by NDTV, Sanjay Roy’s mother said, “He will understand what he did. There isn’t just one person involved in this incident; there are several people. My son has done nothing wrong, he is innocent.” She also mentioned that her son has been married only once, not four times, as some rumors suggest.
Sanjay’s elder sister, who lives nearby, said that Sanjay had two marriages. She added that they learned about the rape and murder case through television. She said that if her brother has done anything wrong, he should be punished.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
On Friday, August 23, 2024, Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the Kolkata rape case, was presented in Sealdah Court, where he was sent to 14 days of judicial custody. Earlier, the CBI team had requested permission for a polygraph test of Sanjay Roy, along with the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital and four doctors. This permission was granted on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
So far, the CBI team has questioned 73 people in connection with the trainee doctor’s rape and murder case. The CBI suspects that Sanjay Roy and former principal Sandeep Ghosh have not been completely truthful in their statements. The case is being heard by a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud.
The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud noted, “The police showed negligence in every aspect, from receiving the complaint to filing the report. Even the crime scene was not properly secured.”
