A shocking incident has surfaced in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where fake currency notes were found with Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s picture instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s. The Ahmedabad police have seized thousands of fake ₹500 notes, totaling an amount of ₹1.6 crore.
What’s more surprising is that instead of “Reserve Bank of India,” the notes had “Resole Bank of India” printed on them. A video of these fake notes is going viral on social media, and even Anupam Kher has responded. He shared a picture of the note with his image on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and captioned it, “Well, anything can happen!”
Anupam Kher Also Shocked
Bollywood actor Anupam Kher was shocked to see this viral video. In his post, he wrote, “Well, anything can happen! My photo on a ₹500 note instead of Gandhiji’s? Unbelievable!”

The fake notes had “Resole Bank of India” instead of “Reserve Bank of India,” and the paper used to wrap the bundles had “Start Bank of India” instead of “State Bank of India.” This shows that the fraud was well-planned and carefully executed.
Gold Trader Cheated with Fake Currency
According to a report by The Indian Express, a gold trader named Mehul Thakkar was handed fake currency notes. He was supposed to receive ₹1.6 crore in cash. Someone gave him a bag full of money, but when he opened it, he found fake notes with Anupam Kher’s picture instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s.
After the trader filed a complaint, the police registered a case against unknown individuals and started investigating how these fake notes were made and who is behind this fraud. They are also trying to find out where the fake currency is being printed and how much has already been circulated.
