In Parliament, there was significant commotion regarding the situation in Bangladesh. BJP MP Bishnu Pada Ray raised questions about the silence of opposition leaders on the Bangladesh issue.
On August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned due to anti-reservation protests turning into a government-opposition movement. Amidst the violence, she fled the country and is currently in India with her sister.
BJP MP Bishnu Pada Ray criticized opposition parties, including the TMC and Congress, for their silence on the issue. He said, “I protest. The TMC and Congress won’t speak out. Rahul Gandhi won’t say anything either. My father fled from what is now Bangladesh in 1946 and went to Andaman. Here, people from the TMC remain silent.”
Ray accused the opposition of focusing only on vote bank politics. He added, “They are silent about what is happening in Bangladesh. Everyone should discuss the Bangladesh issue. Rahul Gandhi and others only care about political gains.”
What Happened in Bangladesh?
In Bangladesh, anti-reservation protests escalated into a government-opposition movement, leading to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation on August 5. Amid the violence, she left the country and is now in India.
On Thursday, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took charge of an interim government with the support of the Bangladeshi military. President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath to Yunus as the head of the interim government, along with 13 other members and 16 advisors.
