66 Indians Still Working in Russian Security Forces; Eight Have Died

The government has reported that 66 Indians are still working in the Russian military. There are plans to release them as soon as possible. According to the government, eight Indian citizens have died while fighting for Russia. Their families have identified them. Additionally, 13 Indians have successfully returned to India. This information was shared by Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, in response to a question from TMC MP Jawahar Sircar.

How Many Indians Have Died in Russia?

The Minister of State for External Affairs said that Indian citizens working in the Russian armed forces have requested their release from Russia. However, the government does not have detailed information on how many Indians are currently employed by the Russian armed forces. He mentioned that the government has provided financial assistance to bring back the bodies of four Indians who were killed. The government will also help in other similar cases.

He added that the Russian government has stated that compensation will be given to the families of those who died. This compensation will be provided according to the agreements made by Russia. The Indian government has strongly raised the issue of releasing Indians working in the Russian armed forces and their safety with Russian officials. The government hopes that Indians wanting to work in Russia will take precautions to avoid such situations.

How Many Illegal Travel Agents Are Operating in India?

The minister mentioned that to prevent such issues, the government regularly updates a list of illegal agents on the e-Migrate portal. As of June 2024, the names of 3,042 illegal agents have been notified on this portal.
