46 Stranded Tourists Rescued by Helicopter After Landslide, CM Dhami Praises Rescue Teams

Pithoragarh Landslide: On Sunday, 46 tourists from Delhi, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu, who were stranded due to a landslide on the Adi Kailash travel route, were safely rescued by helicopter. The tourists were stuck at various locations due to heavy rain and landslides. The rescue operation, led by the disaster management department, successfully brought them to safety. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the district magistrate (DM), superintendent of police (SSP), NDRF, SSB, and civil aviation teams for their successful efforts.

CM Dhami’s Instructions and Administration’s Actions

CM Dhami mentioned that the entire operation was conducted under his supervision, and he personally monitored the process. He emphasized that passenger safety is the government’s top priority, and the state government is committed to ensuring safe travel for all visitors. Plans are also in place to evacuate the passengers stranded at Narayan Ashram by helicopter on Monday.

The rescue of the 46 tourists, who had been stranded since September 13 due to blocked routes from heavy rains and landslides, was completed on Sunday. According to the state emergency operations center, one of the tourists, Swadesh Nand Mahal, died due to health complications. The remaining tourists were safely rescued and are undergoing health checks.

Under CM Dhami’s instructions, efforts to clear blocked routes across the state are underway. He has directed relevant departments to quickly reopen these routes to avoid further inconvenience to travelers. In the past 24 hours, over 60 blocked routes have been cleared, improving travel conditions in the state.

Disaster Management and Review Meeting

A crucial review meeting will be held on Monday, chaired by Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman. The meeting will include officers from all districts, executive engineers from the Public Works Department, and district disaster management officials. The meeting will review the status of blocked routes and the current disaster management situation.

CM Dhami reiterated that passenger safety is the government’s priority, and the administration’s swift action and readiness to evacuate travelers during disasters are commendable.
