Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a back injury. The team management was waiting for his fitness report, and on Tuesday, the final decision was made. BCCI has now announced the final squad for India, replacing Bumrah with Harshit Rana.
This is not the first time that Bumrah has missed an ICC tournament due to injury. His absence has caused problems for Team India in the past as well.
Missed the 2022 T20 World Cup
In September 2022, Bumrah played a home series against Australia, and it was expected that he would be part of Indiaโs squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup in October-November.
- Bumrah was included in the initial squad, but he got injured during the Australia series.
- He could not recover in time, and as a result, he was ruled out of the T20 World Cup.
- Despite his absence, India reached the semi-finals but suffered a huge defeat against England.
Missed the 2023 World Test Championship Final
- India lost the 2021 World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand.
- In 2023, the team reached the WTC final again, but Bumrah was not available.
- Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur led the Indian pace attack in his absence.
- Bumrah had a back problem and had to undergo surgery in March 2023.
- Without him, India struggled, and Australia defeated them by 209 runs in the final.
Bumrahโs injuries have been a big concern for Team India, especially in major ICC tournaments. His absence has often weakened the Indian bowling attack in crucial matches.
