Indian Railways is making significant profits as wealthy people choose to travel by train again. According to official reports, revenue from passenger fares is expected to be 16% higher than the target for this financial year. This could bring about ₹92,800 crores to the railway’s treasury.
Luxury Trains Like Vande Bharat Lead the Way
Trains like Vande Bharat, known for their luxurious and comfortable services, have become popular among high-class passengers. Even frequent flyers are now opting for these trains. The presence of train hostesses, similar to air hostesses on flights, adds to the premium experience. Additionally, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains continue to offer excellent services, contributing significantly to railway earnings.
Big Earnings From AC Three-Tier Coaches
The AC Three-Tier coaches have been a major revenue generator. By March this year, earnings from these tickets are expected to reach ₹30,089 crores, a 20% increase from the previous year. By 2026, this figure may rise to ₹37,115 crores.
Revenue from Executive Class and AC Chair Cars has also seen a notable rise. Earnings from Executive Class could reach ₹698 crores by March, 42% higher than last year, and may touch ₹987 crores by 2026. AC Chair Car earnings for this financial year are expected to be ₹4,280 crores.
Passenger Contribution to Total Revenue
Last year, passenger fares contributed 26.4% of Indian Railways’ total revenue. This year, it has increased to 28.6%, and by 2026, it is expected to reach 30%.
