After becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time on Monday, October 14, 2024. This meeting was a courtesy visit.
Atishi had taken the oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister on September 21, 2024. She became the third woman to hold this position in Delhi after former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit. Atishi is also the youngest woman to become the Chief Minister of Delhi. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinay Kumar Saxena, administered her oath.
What did Atishi say after becoming CM?
Atishi was chosen as the leader of the party’s legislative group after Arvind Kejriwal resigned as CM on September 17. She then officially took on the role of Chief Minister. When she started her duties at the Delhi Secretariat, she placed two chairs – one for herself and one that remains empty. The empty chair is bigger.
After assuming office, Atishi said, “In four months, I will make sure that Arvind Kejriwal sits on this chair.” She compared herself to Bharat from the Ramayana, saying, “Just like Bharat ruled with Lord Ram’s sandals when he was in exile for 14 years, I will manage the duties of the CM for the next four months.” She expressed a similar feeling of responsibility and sadness that Bharat felt when Lord Ram went into exile.
Atishi’s Biggest Challenge
Atishi’s biggest challenge as Chief Minister is to lead the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to win the Delhi Assembly elections for the fourth time. Keeping this goal in mind, she has already started preparing for the elections to make it possible for Arvind Kejriwal to return as Chief Minister.
