Legendary actress Zeenat Aman has been regularly sharing her thoughts on various topics ever since she joined Instagram. Sometimes, she even shares old and interesting stories from her film career. This time, she opened up about the word “Aunty” and how it is often used as an insult. Zeenat spoke freely about why calling someone “Aunty” shouldn’t be seen as offensive.
Where Would We Be Without Older Women?
Zeenat shared a photo on her Instagram, where her sweatshirt had the word “Aunty” written on it. Along with the photo, she wrote a long caption, asking, “Which genius decided that ‘Aunty’ is an insulting word? I certainly didn’t.” She further explained that older women, who are present everywhere and make our lives more comfortable and safe, are vital to society. Without them, where would we be?
Indian Aunties Are Everywhere
Zeenat continued by saying that Indian aunties are everywhere. They offer a shoulder to lean on, a listening ear for your problems, warm food, a welcoming home, a well-deserved scolding, and words of wisdom. She added that when people hear the word “Aunty,” they might picture a grumpy old woman, or they might think of the elder women in their own lives.
I’m Proud to Be an Aunty
Zeenat proudly wrote, “I am an Aunty, and I’m proud of it.” She said that it’s a title she would happily wear. Zeenat then shared a personal story about her stepmother, Shamim Aunty, who took great care of her sons when they were little. Shamim Aunty cooked for them and looked after them. After sharing this, Zeenat asked her followers to tell her about the special aunties in their lives.
